Alleging possible tampering of electronic voting machines (EVMs), West Bengal Chief Ministerย Mamata Banerjeeย on Thursday issued a strong directive to party workers to remain vigilant at polling booths until voting concludes.
ย
Addressing a massive rally at Tentulia High School grounds in North 24 Parganas ahead of theย West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo warned, โNo one is to leave the booth until the voting ends. They will try to tamper with EVMs. Remember, chips can be inserted to steal votes. Outsiders are being brought in.โ
ย
Despite arriving nearly an hour behind schedule, Mamata was greeted by a large gathering that had assembled since early morning. She shared the stage with party candidates Bina Mandal (Swarupnagar), Narayan Goswami (Ashoknagar), and Rituparna Adhya (Bongaon South), holding their hands aloft as she appealed to voters.
ย
โThis vote is not just about forming a government; it is about protecting peopleโs rights,โ she said, urging the electorate to look beyond individual candidates. โIf you want the continuation of welfare schemes and stability, then your vote is for me,โ she asserted, positioning herself as the central face of the electoral contest.
ย
Mamata also launched a sharp attack on the BJP over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, alleging that the exclusion of nearly 90 lakh names was a โcalculated move.โ According to her, such actions could undermine democratic participation and deny benefits to eligible citizens.
ย
Highlighting her governmentโs performance, the Chief Minister outlined the implementation of 105 welfare schemes. She assured that initiatives like Lakshmir Bhandar and Yuvashree would continue, while promising housing for all and expansion of piped drinking water facilities across the state.
ย
Reiterating her confidence in party workers, Mamata expressed faith in their ability to counter challenges on polling day, emphasising discipline and vigilance as key to ensuring a fair electoral process.
