Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar criticised the ICC sanctions on Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, arguing they were insufficient to deter future incidents.
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar claimed the sanctions imposed on Yashasvi Jaiswal for his aggressive antics were not adequate to ensure that such an incident does not happen again.
Manjrekar’s thoughts emanated from the heated altercation between Jaiswal and Asitha Fernando after the latter dismissed the Indian opener.
The SL bowler provoked Jaiswal, who was on his way back, prompting the Indian cricketer to turn around and confront his Sri Lankan counterpart, and they nearly butted heads, making things slightly physical.
‘You train them to repeat such behaviour’
The International Cricket Council (ICC) imposed sanctions on both Jaiswal and Asitha, and fined them 25 per cent of their match fees and gave them a demerit point each.

Manjrekar, however, said the ICC and BCCI are training them to repeat such behaviour if they let them go leniently. He also claimed that such things were not good for the sport.
“Dear @icc & @bcciโฆ Vaibhav for Ind A recently & now Jaiswalโฆ if you keep letting them get away with such behaviour, you train them to repeat such behaviour. Itโs not good for the sport & crucially their own future too,” Manjrekar tweeted on ‘X‘.

The Jaiswal-Asitha incident triggered a major debate, as pundits and former cricketers criticised the India opener for his action. Veteran broadcaster Harsha Bhogle, in particular, was critical of Jaiswal’s actions.
But the Indian opener responded by saying that no one is in a position to make judgements when they do not know what he said.

โIf you donโt know what he said, then please donโt make your judgment. If anyone cross the line, we need to let them know that this India will fight and reply,โ Jaiswal commented in the video shared by Cricbuzz.
