The Indian equity benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty, started the day in the red on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, tracking weak global cues. While the 30-share BSE Sensex fell 184.45 points to start the session at 81,917.65, the Nifty dipped 60.75 points to open at 25,108.75. In the last trading session, the Sensex closed at 82,102.10 and the Nifty 50 at 25,169.50.ย
From the Sensex pack, Trent, NTPC, Maruti, State Bank of India, and Adani Ports were among the major gainers, with Trent leading the pack by gaining 0.72 per cent in the early trade today. On the other hand, Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank, and ICICI Bank were among the laggards, with Tata Motors shedding over 1.81 per cent in the opening trade.ย

“On the higher side, a break above 25,260/82350 is likely to maintain bullish momentum. Above this level, the index could move up to 25,350-25,450/82600-82900. On the flip side, a decline below 25,080/81800 may accelerate further. Below this level, it could slip to 25,000-24,950/81500-81400,” Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities.
What did Gift Nifty indicate?
Gift Nifty, an early indicator for the Nifty 50, indicated a negative start as it opened with a fall of 15.5 points at 25,228.50, compared to the previous close of 25,244.ย
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) snapped a two-day buying streak on September 22, selling equities worth Rs 3,351 crore, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought equities worth Rs 2,671 crore on the same day.ย
Asian Markets Today
Meanwhile, most Asian shares fell on Wednesday following a drop on Wall Street. While Japan’s Nikkei 225 was down by 58.66 points or 0.13 per cent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng added 272.88 points or 1.03 per cent. South Korea’s Kospi traded in the green with a fall of 29.52 points. Shanghai’s SSE Composite index was up by 24.08 points or 0.63 per cent.ย ย
