“Sirens” stars Meghann Fahy and Glenn Howerton are reuniting for director Natalie Morales’ upcoming film “The Girlfriend”.
Shooting for the comedy feature, the script of which has been penned by Howerton and Rich Appel, is set to begin from June 29.
“Claire gives up her perfect New York City life and moves to Alabama for her husband Elliot’s (Howerton) dream job. Seeing her isolated, friendless, and unhappy, Elliot does what any loving husband would do: he secretly hires an escort (Fahy) to be her new best friend,” states the film’s logline.
The project is being made in association with BuzzFeed Studios. It has been backed by IPR.VC and Paris-based Vixens and has support from the European Union under the InvestEU Fund.

On the work front, Fahy bagged Emmy nominations for “The White Lotus” and Netflix series “Sirens” and recently appeared in Universal-Blumhouse thriller “Drop”. Also in the pipeline for the actress is the Peacock limited series “The Good Daughter” in which she stars opposite Rose Byrne. The show will premiere in November.
Howerton is co-creator and also stars in the long-running FX comedy series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, and featured alongside Fahy in the hit Netflix limited series “Sirens”. He won an Independent Spirit Award nomination for his performance in XYZ’s “BlackBerry”.
Morales is known for starring in “Grey’s Anatomy”, “The Beast In Me”, “The Morning Show” and “Parks And Recreation”. She has also directed features including “Plan B” and “Language Lessons”.
