Jammu and Kashmir Peopleโs Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday criticised National Security Advisor Ajit Doval for calling for revenge over centuries-old historical events.
ย
She described Dovalโs remarks as a โdog whistleโ and accused him of promoting a โcommunal ideology of hateโ.ย ย
ย
In a post on X, the former chief minister wrote, โIt is unfortunate that the NSA, whose duty is to protect the nation, has chosen to join the communal ideology of hate.โย ย
ย
At the opening ceremony of the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue in Delhi on Saturday, Doval said India must strengthen itself โnot just at the borders, but in every other way, including economically, to avengeโ a painful history of attacks and subjugation.ย ย

โYou are lucky that you were born in an independent India. I was born in a colonised India. Our ancestors fought for independence and went through so many trials and tribulations,โ the 81-year-old former Intelligence Bureau director told the gathering of 3,000 young delegates from across the country.
ย
โPeople like Bhagat Singh were hanged, Subhash Chandra Bose struggled all his life, and Mahatma Gandhi had to do satyagraha for us to gain independence. Revenge is not a good word, but it can be a huge force. We have to avenge our history and take this country to the point where it is great again, not just in terms of border security, but economy, social development, and every aspect,โ Doval added.ย ย

His comments drew sharp criticism from Mehbooba Mufti, who viewed them as filled with anti-minority sentiments.
