Mitchell Starc has officially dethroned Jasprit Bumrah, becoming the new No. 1-ranked ICC Test bowler on Wednesday following his brilliant outing in the second Test match between Australia and Bangladesh at Mackay.
At 36, the left-arm pace-bowling veteran bowled with the energy of youth, claiming a tenโwicket match haul that helped the hosts level the twoโmatch Test series.
In the second AUS vs BAN Test match, Starc claimed six for 12 and four for 39 in the hosts’ victory by an innings and 51 runs.
Bumrah dethroned by Starc as No. 1 Test bowler
Starc ended Bumrah’s longstanding reign as the No. 1 Test bowler, achieving the feat for the first time in his career. The Aussie veteran delivered a Player of the Series-worthy performance against Bangladesh to reach the top of the ICC Men’s Test bowler rankings.

Bumrahโs reign came to an end as injury ruled him out of Indiaโs ongoing World Test Championship campaign against Sri Lanka.
The Aussie left-handed pacer moved past Bumrah and New Zealand’s Matt Henry to become the No. 1 Test bowler. His previous best position was number two, which he achieved after the 2025 Boxing Day Test. He was named Player of the Match and Player of the Series for his bowling heroics.

With Starc at the top, Bumrah slipped to number two, while Henry held the third spot. Meanwhile, Australia captain Pat Cummins moved up a spot to fourth after claiming six wickets at the Mackay Test.
Spin-bowling veteran Nathan Lyon ascended two spots to join the top ten in Test bowling rankings.

India’s Manav Suthar also rose 28 places to reach his career-best 48th, while Prasidh Krishna is up two spots to 53rd. Sri Lanka bowlers Asitha Fernando and Prabath Jayasuriya have both moved up five places to 15th and 16th, respectively.
