Nat Sciver-Brunt becomes first cricketer ever to achieve landmark feat in WPL

Nat Sciver-Brunt became the first cricketer ever to score a century in the WPL. She achieved the feat against RCB in Vadodara. Courtesy of her stellar knock, Mumbai posted 199 runs on the board in the first innings.

Vadodara:

Mumbai Indians all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt created history as she became the first cricketer ever to score a ton in the Womenโ€™s Premier League (WPL). The England international went berserk against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Vadodara, smacking an unbeaten 100 in 57 balls. She looked ruthless right from the start, hitting 16 boundaries and one maximum during her stay at the crease.ย

Earlier, opener Hayley Matthews set the tone for Sciver-Brunt to come in and play an aggressive brand of cricket. Matthews herself looked in terrific touch, scoring 56 runs off 39 balls. They stitched a partnership of 131 runs that put the RCB bowlers under immense pressure. The likes of Sayali Satghare, Arundhati Reddy and Shreyanka Patil proved to be expensive as Mumbai posted 199 runs on the board in the first innings.

Wanted to get as many runs for the team: Sciver-Brunt

After the end of the heroic innings, Sciver-Brunt noted that he was slightly nervous as many cricketers have reached the 90-run mark in the past, but failed to convert it into a century. She spoke about the pace of the innings and laughingly added that her partner Katherine Sciver-Brunt might not have watched, as she is usually nervous in these scenarios.ย

โ€œIโ€™ve seen a few players go out in the 90s, so I didnโ€™t want to replicate that. But I also wanted to get as many runs for the team. Really pleased that we could get up to that total, personally, really happy as well. Katherine obviously is watching as well, hopefully. I mean, sheโ€™s actually a really nervous watcher, so sheโ€™s probably not watching. But she wanted a tea and she wanted me to get three figures, so here we go. Iโ€™m absolutely happy,โ€ Sciver-Brunt said in the presentation.

“I guess a first T20 century for me, so happy to get over that milestone and hopefully itโ€™s not the last. Hayley will be so pleased to come back, obviously after a pretty long injury layoff, and get that kind of score. So pleased for her, I enjoy batting with her when I get the chance,โ€ she added.

Meanwhile, Sciver-Brunt and Matthewsโ€™ partnership was the fourth-highest for Mumbai in the WPL. Interestingly, they feature all throughout the top four.ย
