Owaisi warns Pak PM over water threat, cites Indiaโ€™s BrahMos missile

Asaduddin Owaisi, the Chief of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and a Member of Parliament, has publicly responded to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharifโ€™s pledge that Pakistan would not allow India to take even a single drop of its water.

In his rebuttal, Owaisi stated, “Shehbaz Sharif is the Prime Minister of Pakistan. He should not talk such nonsense. The government of India has kept the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance. We have BrahMos with us. Such threats will have no effect on India. Enough is enough.”

Owaisiโ€™s comments were a direct reaction to Sharifโ€™s speech at a ceremony in Pakistan on Tuesday. During the event, Sharif had issued a warning to India against any attempt to stop the flow of water into Pakistan, declaring, “I want to tell the enemy today that if you threaten to hold our water, then keep this in mind that you cannot snatch even one drop of Pakistan.”

Former Pakistani Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari also weighed in on the issue, condemning the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. He labelled the move an ‘attack on the Indus Valley Civilisation’ and threatened that Pakistan would not back down if forced into conflict.

In response to Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s war threat, BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty offered a mix of sarcasm and strong rhetoric. He said, “Agar aisi baatein karte rahenge aur hamari khopdi sanak gayi toh phir ek ke baad ek BrahMos chalega… We have also thought of building a dam where 140 crore people will pee. After that, we will open the dam, and a tsunami will occur. I have nothing against the people of Pakistan. I have said all of this for him (Bilawal Bhutto).”

Chakraborty’s remarks came shortly after Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s warning of war if New Delhi proceeded with altering the Indus Waters Treaty.

These recent statements from Pakistani political figures follow a previous threat by Pakistan’s Army Chief, Asim Munir. While speaking at a black-tie dinner in the US hosted by businessman and honorary consul Adnan Asad, Munir reportedly threatened to launch a nuclear war if Pakistan faced an “existential threat” in any future clash with India.ย

Munir’s alleged statement was, “We are a nuclear nation. If we think we are going down, weโ€™ll take half the world down with us.” This comment was reportedly made during his second visit to the US following Operation Sindoor.
