PCB issues new guidelines to PSL franchises after team hotel security breach

New Delhi:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued new guidelines to all the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises after a security breach in a team hotel that saw Lahore Qalandars skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi being fined by PKR 1 million.

The new guidelines come after a security breach incident at a team hotel in the PSL. Raza met his family members at the hotel and his meeting was facilitated by Shaheen, as told by the Zimbabwe star. The PCB took a serious stance on the incident and fined Shaheen after Punjab police accussed him of violating the security protocols despite Raza claiming that the ‘culprit’ was him and not Shaheen.ย

PCB tells franchises no family members without approval

Following this incident, the PCB has sent new guidelines to the franchises. According to reliable sources, the PCB informed franchises via email that players and officials must seek Board approval at least 24 hours in advance before meeting family members at the team hotel.

“The Board has made it clear that anyone wanting to meet with family members in the hotel has to seek permission 24 hours before the intended visit by family members,” said the source who is close to the PCB as quoted by PTI. The source added that the Board would try to arrange a suitable meeting point for the player (s) with their family members in the team hotel.

“The Board has also made it clear that only a player’s wife, parents, brother and sister are allowed inside the players room, that too after getting clearance from the Board 24 hours in advance,” the source added.ย

The source stated that senior police officials took serious note of a breach in security protocol after Lahore captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sikandar were found hosting four guests in the latterโ€™s room late on Saturday night.

“The police officials conveyed to the Board that unless all franchises adhere strictly to the security protocols, it will be impossible for them to provide a safe and secure environment at the team hotel for all players and officials,” it added. The PCB’s security manager and anti-corruption head are also understood to have raised concerns over the breach with PSL CEO Salman Naseer.
