Prasidh Krishna ruled out of 3rd ODI against West Indies; BCCI calls up pace-bowling all-rounder as replacement

India have suffered a setback ahead of the third ODI against West Indies, with fast bowler Prasidh Krishna ruled out due to a hamstring injury sustained during the high-scoring second ODI in Guwahati.

Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna will miss out on the third and final India vs West Indies ODI in New Chandigarh after suffering a hamstring injury in the second ODI in Guwahati, Assam.

The second ODI match between India and the West Indies was an absolute run-fest, with five batters reaching their respective hundreds — including a double hundred by captain Shubman Gill. A total of 811 runs were scored in both innings, with the batters gaining maximum advantage of the flat track in Assam.

Prasidh ruled out of third ODI

Prasidh bowled just five overs during the West Indies’ innings in the second ODI, during which he picked up the wicket of Keacy Carty and conceded 45 runs. According to Cricinfo, he suffered a hamstring injury and has already returned to his hometown, Bengaluru.

The Indian fast bowler bowled his full quota of ten overs in the first ODI at Thiruvananthapuram, but the injury limited his performance in the second match.

India chose to bowl first in the humid conditions in Guwahati, with the fast bowlers functioning under the hot afternoon sun, making it difficult for them. Players also got cramped up during the match, leading to them receiving medical attention.

Anshul Kamboj replaces Prasidh

Pace-bowling all-rounder Anshul Kamboj replaced Prasidh in India’s one-day international squad for the third ODI against the West Indies. The cricketer was withdrawn from the ongoing India A vs Australia A four-day match-up in Puducherry to join the team in New Chandigarh.

Kamboj made his India Test debut last year, where he made his only appearance against England. He has never competed in ODI cricket.

The all-rounder, however, is expected to sit out despite being named in the squad, as India still has Mohammed Siraj, who can lead the team’s pace department in New Chandigarh.

The India-West Indies 3rd ODI will take place on Saturday, October 3, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
