Cristiano Ronaldo claimed that he is the greatest footballer of all time, pointing to his extraordinary goal-scoring numbers as proof of his legacy.
Portuguese football icon Cristiano Ronaldo has declared himself the greatest footballer of all time, while insisting that his extraordinary goal-scoring record hasn’t always received the recognition it deserves.
Ronaldo is currently serving a provisional suspension after he abruptly exited the Portugal national football camp midway through their campaign in the UEFA Nations League following a reported dispute with team manager Jorge Jesus.
‘People are not valuing the form I am in’
In an interview teaser shared by CNN Portugal, Ronaldo said people do not fully appreciate the level at which he is still performing ot the number of goals he continues to score.
โPeople are not valuing the form I am in, my goals,โ Ronaldo said.
Ronaldo further stated that his achievements and stats make him the greatest footballer in history, regardless of whether he reached the 1,000 career goals milestone.
โThings have to happen naturally. If I scored 920 goals, 925, 930 โฆ the best in history is me, full stop. The numbers speak for themselves. If I get there (to 1,000 goals), it is amazing, an objective, but I donโt think long-term,โ he added.
Ronaldo speaks on retirement
Ronaldo went on to admit that he does not know what the future holds and said there could be a time when he loses the motivation to continue playing football. He also stressed being focused on the present instead of making long-term plans.
โI donโt know what is going to happen tomorrow. Maybe I wake up demotivated and donโt want to play anymore; I just donโt know,โ Ronaldo added.
The Portuguese striker has had a penchant for explosive interviews. His sit-down interview with Piers Morgan led to a major controversy after he heavily criticised Manchester United and then-manager Erik ten Hag.
Ronaldo’s upcoming interview is expected to expose major bombshells and possibly unveil cracks in the national setup.
