British actor Tom Burke is set to join the cast of live-action adaptation of hit video game “Elden Ring”.

The project, helmed by filmmaker Alex Garland, known for movies such as “Ex Machina”, “Annihilation”, “Civil War” and “Warfare”, went under production in the United Kingdom this week.

The film, based on Bandai Namco Entertainment’s acclaimed fantasy action game, will release across theatres in the US on March 3, 2028.

Burke, also known for starring in “Strike” series as well as films such as “The Souvenir”, “Mank” and “Black Bag”, joins a cast that already includes Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw and Cailee Spaeny. Nick Offerman will also feature in a pivotal role.

Additional members joining the cast are actors Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, Ruby Cruz, John Hodgkinson, Jefferson Hall, Emma Laird and Peter Serafinowicz.

“Elden Ring” is an action role-playing game developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.

Directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game was created in collaboration with George RR Martin, the author behind the “A Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy novel series and its television adaptation “Game of Thrones”, who provided the world building for the game.

Set in a dying realm called the Lands Between, players take on the role of a Tarnished, an undead warrior, on a quest to restore the shattered Elden Ring and claim lordship over the world.

The game features a vast open world, third-person combat with weapons and magic, and both cooperative and player-versus-player online multiplayer.

Since its release in February 2022 on PlayStation, Xbox and PC, the game has sold over 30 million copies worldwide, received more than 400 Game of the Year awards and ranks among the highest-rated video games of all time.
