According to the ruling political party of Tamil Nadu, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, the NEET is not acceptable. The party reiterated its position on Tuesday that the national level medical exam must be scrapped and not reformed. With an unyielding attitude regarding the issue, the party has asked for complete freedom to states in medical education. For a permanent solution to the problem, the party wants education to be restored to the State List from the Concurrent List of the Constitution.

As an interim measure, the party proposed creating a Special Concurrent List to devolve full powers over educational matters to state governments if immediate constitutional changes face legal or procedural hurdles. It noted that this dual approach reflects the core vision already outlined by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.

In addition to that, the party also launched an assault on its major rival, DMK, by claiming that the political party was indulging in dishonest politics through making false promises about doing away with the entrance test to win the elections. It did not name its rival in its declaration but made it clear that TVK would not ever deceive the electorate through making any false promise that was made before 2021. Moreover, it asked its political opponents to stop using the work of others to their benefit.

This response follows sharp criticism from Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin regarding the police handling of rap artist ‘Therukkural’ Arivu. The musician had staged a swift anti-NEET protest outside the Tamil Nadu Secretariat at Fort St George in Chennai, shouting slogans against the examination before being detained by security personnel. Reiterating its core position, the TVK maintained that scrapping NEET and restoring state control over education remain essential steps forward.
