Ukraine tried to attack Putin’s residence, says Russian foreign minister

In a big claim, Russia’s foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said that Ukraine attempted to target President Vladimir Putinโ€™s residence in the Novgorod region.

New Delhi:

Russia on Monday accused Ukraine of attempting to target President Vladimir Putinโ€™s residence in the Novgorod region, a claim made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. It remains unclear whether President Putin was present at the residence at the time of the alleged incident. Describing the incident as an act of โ€œstate terrorism,โ€ Lavrov claimed that a large-scale drone operation was launched against the presidential property. According to him as per reports, as many as 91 drones were involved in the attempted attack.

โ€œAll the drones that targeted the presidential residence in the Novgorod region were intercepted and destroyed by Russian air defence systems,โ€ Lavrov was quoted as saying by Russian state media.

Russia vows retaliation

Lavrov issued a strong warning, stating that Moscow would respond firmly to such actions. He said the Russian Armed Forces had already identified targets for retaliation and decided on the timing of possible counterstrikes. โ€œSuch reckless actions will not go unanswered,โ€ he said, signaling a possible escalation in the conflict.
