Venezuela attack Updates: National emergency declared after multiple explosions in Caracas, govt blames US donald trump

Venezuela US tensions LIVE updates: The Venezuelan government blamed the massive explosions that rocked the capital, Caracas, in the early hours of Saturday on the President Donald Trump-led United States administration, and declared a national emergency in response.

Caracas:

At least 7 explosions and the sound of low-flying aircraft were reported around 2 am local time on Saturday in Venezuelaโ€™s capital, Caracas, as the government accused the United States of launching military attacks on civilian and military installations across multiple states.

Smoke was seen rising from the hangar of a military base in Caracas, while another military facility in the capital was left without power. Residents in several neighbourhoods rushed into the streets, with people visible from different parts of the city. The Venezuelan government said the attacks targeted Caracas as well as the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira. President Nicolรกs Maduro declared a state of emergency in response, according to a statement from the communications ministry.

The Pentagon referred requests for comment to the White House, which did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

Meanwhile, the Federal Aviation Authority banned US commercial flights from operating in Venezuelan airspace due to what it described as ongoing military activity, shortly before the explosions were reported in Caracas.
