At her Asian Games debut, Quimcy stunned top-seeded Yuina Sakamoto of Japan 2-1 (10-12 12-11 13-11) in her opening Group A match, which went on for 43 minutes at the Nagoya City Higashi Sports Center.
Who is Quimcy Joaquim Dsouza?
Dsouza is a former football athlete who represented Maharashtra and took up the sport in 2022. She has excelled in Teqball and has since become a seven-time national champion and attained a career-high world No. 24 ranking.
At the 2026 World Championships in Romania, she finished ninth. Notably, Dsouza pioneered Teqball and honed her skills without any coach’s guidance.
Outside the sport, she works as a test engineer for a sports goods retailer and founded the Teqball Club of Bengaluru, helping the game develop and grow among other aspiring athletes.
What is Teqball?
Teqball was one of the six sports alongside MMA, Padel, Surfing, BMX Freestyle and Virtual Taekwondo which made its debut at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Dsouza’s victory has put her in the limelight and also thrown some light on the sport. She carried the momentum in her second group-stage match, defeating Koemyean DY of Cambodia 2-0 (12-9 12-7) in a 24-minute match.
The Indian teqball athlete topped her group, qualified for the semifinals, and will now face Indonesia’s Sumaya on Saturday; one win would assure India’s first medal in Teqball. Even in defeat, Dsouza would still have a shot at a medal through the bronzeโmedal playโoff.
