Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins is ruled out of the first few games of the IPL 2026. The all-rounder is currently managing a lumbar bone stress back injury and may return to action after a week or more. In his absence, Ishan Kishan has been announced as the captain, while Abhishek Sharma will serve as his deputy.
After the toss against Kolkata Knight Riders, Kishan shared an update on Cummins, stating that the Australia international is on course to recover full fitness. He also highlighted the batting prowess Cummins bring to the table as well.ย
โI don’t know yet, but he should be ready soon, he makes a big difference, with the bat as well,โ Kishan said after the toss.
More than his captaincy, Hyderabad definitely missed the bowler Cummins in the opening game, where they suffered a six-wicket defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Their bowling unit lacked depth, despite David Payneโs brilliance in the game. Meanwhile, Hyderabad have made one change to their playing XI against KKR as the 2016 champions are determined to return to winning ways.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (Playing XI): Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan (wk/c), Heinrich Klaasen, Aniket Verma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Salil Arora, Harsh Dubey, Shivang Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat, David Payne
Kolkata Knight Riders (Playing XI): Ajinkya Rahane (c), Cameron Green, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (wk), Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Anukul Roy, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakaravarthy, Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi, Blessing Muzarabani
