The countdown to the 2027 Womenโs Premier League (WPL) season begins with the player auction scheduled to take place in Kochi on October 28, 2026.
A total of 146 players will go under the hammer at this yearโs auction, including 119 Indian cricketers and 27 overseas players. The race will be intense as 27 spots have been made available for Indian cricketers while only seven are reserved for overseas players.
After making key retentions, all WPL franchises will look to reinforce their current squads.
All five teams will plan their strategy accordingly to develop a formidable side for the upcoming season as they chase the coveted title. They can have a squad of up to 18 players, including six overseas cricketers.
WPL 2027 countdown set to kick off with mini auctionย
Unlike the 2026 mega auction, the upcoming event is a mini auction, which would mean that the Right to Match (RTM) option will remain unavailable. All franchises will operate within an INR 15 crore salary cap and now have a combined remaining purse of INR 8.15 crore to spend in the 2027 auction.
Some of the top picks to watch out for are the players who have the highest reserve prices. The list includes England batter Sophia Dunkley (50L), Australian all-rounder Sophie Molineux (50L), Indian wicketkeeper-batter G Kamalini (40L), Heather Graham (40L), Kiran Navgire (40L) and Jess Jonassen (40L).
