The fate of former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar as chairman of the senior men’s selection committee will be decided over the next 48 hours. Senior members of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are expected to discuss Agarkar’s contract renewal.

Agarkar is in the final month of his tenure as chief selector, but he is eligible to continue for one more year under BCCI regulations. Notably, the former Indian cricketer was absent from the BCCI’s recent performance review on September 3, raising doubts over his future.

According to The Hindu, the board members and selection committee chairman Agarkar willhold a round of discussionregarding the former cricketer’s extension.

A BCCI functionary said on conditions of anonymity that both sides werepositively looking at extensionand hopeda few teething issuescould be sorted out at the earliest.

Clarity on Ajit Agarkarโ€™s tenure is expected to emerge during the upcoming meeting between board members and selectors, when Indiaโ€™s squad for the West Indies series will be finalised.

The report added that BCCI office-bearers and the selection committee have beeninvolved in a cold warin the past few months. Additionally, the upcoming selection meeting will be Agarkar’s last assignment in his stipulated contract period.

The West Indies tour of India begins with a three-match ODI series, starting Sunday, September 27, 2026, followed by a five-match T20 series.
