MS Dhoni’s IPL future remains a subject of intense speculation, but Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan has offered fans a reason to stay hopeful.
Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan has expressed confidence that MS Dhoni could return for the 2027 edition of the Indian Premier League, stating there remains a strong possibility of the legendary wicketkeeper-batter continuing with the franchise.
MS Dhoni did not feature in IPL 2026 due to injury concerns, forcing him to sit out the entire season in what many believed would be his farewell campaign, leaving fans disappointed as they were denied the chance to watch the legendary cricketer in action.
‘The chances of him continuing to play for CSK are there’
Speaking to the local media in Chennai, Kasi said only Dhoni will decide about his future, and the franchise is waiting to hear from him.
The CSK CEO added that he is optimistic about Dhoni continuing with the IPL franchise, where he is still considered an active player.
“It’s a question you need to ask him. I also have to ask him. He informs us of his decision when he arrives in Chennai. I have a feeling that the chances of him continuing to play for CSK are there. He is still a player, you know,” Kasi Viswanathan said, as quoted by India Today.
CSK to usher in a new era
While Dhoni remained unavailable for matches due to injury, he took part in the franchise’s training sessions and helped out the young talent as the franchise undergoes a transition phase under captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.
CSK have been unable to reap fruitful results in the past two seasons and will undergo a major coaching overhaul after head coach Stephen Fleming exited the franchise to join England as its new Test head coach.
The IPL 2027 season is set to mark the beginning of a new era for Chennai Super Kings, with the franchise preparing for a fresh start under a revamped coaching setup. With the tournament taking place in the first half of the year, the team management is actively searching for an ideal successor to Fleming to lead the side into its next chapter.
