The incident is the latest off-field incident involving England players in the past year, raising questions over their disciplinary-related concerns and the team’s drinking problem.
The Three Lions were recently dealing with a nightclub incident in June involving now-retired Test captain Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson. It led to them being dropped from one match in the New Zealand Test series.
What happened to Brydon Carse?
On Saturday, a video on social media showed Carse surrounded by law enforcement officers, with his arms handcuffed behind his back. The fast bowler was speaking to Matthew Potts in the clip. Stokes was also spotted in the background.
Carse was named as part of England’s squad for the first two Tests against Pakistan, but the fast bowler was released after he was not named in the playing XI. Instead, he was in action for Durham, scoring 26 runs and registering figures of 2/82 as they beat Derbyshire.

More from FirstcricketNotably, Carse was celebrating the team’s victory with his teammates when the incident took place. Carse was handcuffed for ‘a few minutes’ before being let go without any charges.
A statement from the ECB mentioned, “We are aware of an incident which is reported to have taken place in Derby last night, and are currently investigating. We will provide a further update when possible.”
Carse dropped from England squad
Amid the ongoing investigation, Carse has been dropped from England’s squad for the second Test match against Pakistan. Hampshire’s Sonny Baker replaced him in the squad.

Furthermore, the Carse incident highlighted the need to bring back the night curfew, the action which new Test captain Joe Root had revoked and backed up his players to act like ‘grown-ups.’
The second England-Pakistan Test match will take place from August 27-31 at the iconic Lord’s in London.
